SECOND PLACE - Giovanni Doimo |
The Flair Cocktail Competition – pushing the boundaries of creativity In the exhilarating flair category, 18 of the most exciting flairtenders in the world were literally shaking up a storm in their effort to be crowned Havana Club Flairtending Champion 2008. British born Anthony Pullen won the competition for his adoptive country the Netherlands, wowing the crowds with his technical ability and innovation. In second place was Giovanni Doimo from Germany, and third place was awarded to Tomás Pruckner from the Czech Republic. Flair is the act of flipping, spinning, throwing, balancing and catching bottles, drinks and various bar tools while in the process of making cocktails. It involves highly technical pours and cuts that ensure accuracy and no spillage while performing various tricks and moves².

2008 - Bigger, better and still growing Marc Beuve-Méry, general manager of Havana Club International S.A., comments: “In the 14 years since the first ever Havana Club Cocktail Grand Prix, we have seen the competition grow in international status every year. This year was one of the biggest and the best so far and we are thrilled with the number of countries that participated. With Havana Club having just achieved sales of 3 million 9l cases – that’s 36 million bottles – the brand has a huge global presence and this was reflected in the fact that contestants and visitors to the event were literally from all over the world. The quality of bartending was exceptional and with the additional emphasis on the Cuban heritage of the cocktail culture in the classic competition this year, we saw some outstanding cocktails created.”
